Isn't This Such a Utopia?!

New Pork City (Japanese: ニューポークシティ New Pork City) is a city in Mother 3. It was built by the game's antagonist Porky Minch, who intended to set himself up as the king. The city is set on a mountain top in an unknown location, though it is still located on the Nowhere Islands due to it being the location of the final Needle. The city is mentioned throughout the game beginning with Chapter 5 though it is first actually visited in the game's final chapter, and is where the entirety of Chapter 8 takes place with all previous locations being unable to be revisited.

It is a large urban town being named after and a parody of New York City, one of North America's biggest cities and former capital of the United States of America, with the Pork in its name coming from Porky.

Overview

New Pork City is where all of the residents living on the Nowhere Islands have moved near the end of Chapter 7. The entrance is on a platform in the southwestern section of the town where the limousine arrives to bring visitors into the city. New Pork City appears as a bustling metropolis at night with many visible buildings, however many of which are fake cardboard cutouts. There are many references to EarthBound, such as a theater is present in the southeastern area of town, which plays a video showing Ness's adventures from EarthBound, the Arcade 1-Up which is based off of the arcade in Onett, and a cutout of Dr. Andonuts's lab. In the center western area of the city is the Beauty & Tasty restaurant where all the waitresses are robotic versions of Lardna Minch.

Escalators are used to transport between the upper and lower levels of town. In the western area of the upper level is an amusement park likely a parody of Coney Island. Here, the Sanchez Brothers and their friend Tomas Jefferson will act as slot machines if Lucas inserts 1 DP into the machine. The King Statue is in the far east of the city and will come to life should Lucas "return his feelings of hostility" to the statue.

A Mole Cricket shop can be found in the lobby of the Empire Porky Building, the biggest building of the town, as well as in the sewers.

A theater is located in the southeast section of the city. It consists of the lobby, with the left clerk selling souvenirs and food. There is no admission fee for the current movie playing, allowing Lucas to enter for free. The film playing was selected by Porky himself, and it showcases several points of Ness's adventure in EarthBound. One of the speakers is broken, and behind the speaker is a hole in the wall that leads to the sewers, allowing stinkbugs to come and go as they please to the annoyance of visitors. Additionally, running is not allowed in the theater.

New Pork City sewers

The sewers can be accessed from Arcade 1-Up after Boney chases a stinkbug into the sewer from the theater. Inside the MT Apartments can be found, with one of them housing Leder who tells the backstory of the islands. The battle against Fassad also takes place in the sewer.

Empire Porky Building

Main article: Empire Porky Building

The Empire Porky Building is the capitol building of the city and where Porky lives and gives his orders. It is the building in the center of the upper level. The building is 100 stories high and features many different themes for each floor, including a concert hall, a bathroom, and a game show themed floor. Porky is found on the 100th floor and will race Lucas and his friends to the final Needle.

Geography

New Pork City is set on the top of a mountain, several steel supports are visible beneath the platforms of the city. The city has two levels with transportation between the two being either the two escalators or the ladder beneath the King Statue. Most of the businesses ard found on the lower level of the city while the upper level features the amusement park and Empire Porky Building. Additionally, many skyscrapers and other buildings are visible in the background, however it is unknown wether or not they are an unnamed city or part of New Pork City itself.

History

New Pork City is ambiguously mentioned as early as Chapter 5, as simply "the big city". Thomas first mentions a "big city" where his goods come from in his store in Chapter 5. Throughout Chapter 7, many residents begin to have plans to move out of Tazmily Village to live life in said big city, and near the end of Chapter 7 nearly all of the residents have left Tazmily Village save for a few exceptions.

Lucas and his friends are invited by the Chauffeur to New Pork City at the beginning of Chapter 8 after he pulls the needle of Chupichupyoi Temple. The Chauffeur brings them to the city via a flying limousine. Here, he finds all of the former residents of Tazmily Village, many of which enjoying their new life, although there are some who feel something isn't quite right. Furthermore several people pick up on the city's "kiddy" vibe and how Porky, based upon the various signs and statues, resembles a child. While exploring the city, they visit the theater with several people complaining about the bad smell from some of the seats. Upon checking the seats, a stinkbug appears and Boney chases it into a broken speaker which leads to a path to the sewers. Unable to fit into the speaker, Lucas finds another way in through Arcade 1-Up where they search for Boney.

They find Boney in a room in the MT Apartments, where they also find Leder. They learn from Leder about the history of the Nowhere Islands and about Porky's plan for the future, as well as how the last of the Seven Needles is located somewhere within the city. Thus Lucas is then tasked to storm the Empire Porky Building to put a stop to Porky's twisted plot, and to locate the final Needle to restore order to the world.

Main article: New Pork City (stage)

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Pork City is one of the game's biggest stages, being about the size of a stage deemed large through the Custom Stage option of the game. The city is now floating above the ocean with an unknown city in the far background. Sometimes the Ultimate Chimera appears in the city. It will randomly appear and KO any fighter if it attacks them during this short time. Most of the buildings of the city can be found in the background of the stage, with the Empire Porky Building standing out. Due to the Ultimate Chimera's bites causing One Hit KOs and the largeness of the stage, it is always banned in tournaments.

The stage also returned in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The stage's visuals were slightly updated, though the stage itself is relatively unchanged. The Ultimate Chimera's bite now instantly KOs opponents instead of launching them at high speed.
