Fourside

Fourside as seen in EarthBound

Fourside (Japanese: フォーサイド Fourside) is one of the locations in EarthBound and Super Smash Bros. Melee. To the west of the town is a bridge.

In EarthBound

Fourside is the fourth town Ness and his friends visit. Being a large city, it features many things to do. There is a dinosaur museum here, a cafe (a bar in Mother 2) along with a theater and a very large department store. The Monotoli Building is also located here.

There is an illusion of Fourside created by the Mani-Mani Statue called Moonside. It is accessible through a door in the cafe, and mimics typical night life in the city, featuring many bright lights. People speak in a very backwards manner there, with "yes" and "no"'s meanings being swapped, and overall is very abstract.

Right before Ness, Jeff, and Paula enter the town, they are given a diamond by someone. When they arrive in the town, they find the Runaway Five again. The band has once again been put in debt. To pay off this debt, Ness gives the diamond he was given earlier to the owner of the theater, which once again frees the band. Later, the trio explores the department store. During it however, the lights go out. Paula is also kidnapped by the alien, and Ness is called by an alien. Ness and Jeff go to the top of the store, and find the alien there. They fight it, but when defeated, Paula doesn't appear. It then mentions Monotoli, but soon disappears. When Ness and Jeff exit the store, they find a familiar face. The duo then enters the Monotoli Building, but don't find Paula. They then enter the cafe, but find that Mr. Monotoli doesn't come there. When they exit, they meet Everdred again, and he is badly injured. A crowd is gathered around him and he tells Ness about how he stole an item from Mr. Carpainter. He then decides to sell it in the city, but got tricked by Mr. Monotoli. However, he then tells Ness he is being controlled by the Mani-Mani Statue. His last request is for Ness to check behind the counter in the cafe. However, when does that, he is sent Moonside. At various points of the town, there is a person who sends the duo to the Monotoli Building. However, a man blocks the path, who will only let Ness and Jeff go past him if they bring someone whose eyebrows are connected and has a gold tooth. Ness and Jeff then meet someone, who teleports them to a building. Here, they meet an invisible man, who goes with them when they're teleported from the building. It then follows them around, and when they meet the man blocking the path, he sees the invisible man as the person with connected eyebrows and a gold tooth. They leave, and the duo face the Mani-Mani statue. They defeat it, and then Ness and Jeff are returned to Fourside. However, they are in an unknown room. They exit it, and go back to the cafe. The Apple Kid then calls Ness, and sends his latest invention to him.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Fourside is a large stage, with a major landmark being the U.F.O. that can be found sometimes. It changes the way the player can walk if they are walking on it.

Events

An event where Ness must defeat many playable characters from "space" is featured on the Fourside stage.
