The Desert Cactus[1] appears in Mother as a cactus which unlike any other, has a face. It appears in the west of Yucca Desert. Checking the Cactus reveals that a voice is speaking into Ninten's mind. If he uses Telepathy, the Cactus will sing the fifth melody.
The Cactus's importance is hinted at by the first and least expensive plane flight available in Yucca Desert, as the plane will circle around the Cactus to draw attention to it.
