WikiBound.png

Welcome to WikiBound, Miles of SmashWiki! We're a wiki that aspires to cover everything about the Mother series. We hope to see you contribute, whether it be by editing articles, or by participating in discussions.

 1. Be sure to read the help page, it will tell you everything you need to know about wikicoding.
 2. Always keep an eye on the recent changes page, where all edits and their authors (anonymous or logged-in) are listed.
 3. Try to expand the information found in articles, and keep an eye out for any false info or vandalism.
 4. Talk to your friends about us; get more users! It's always more fun to edit with friends.
 5. Discussion of any aspect of the site can be made on the community portal page or on the "discussion" page associated with each article. If you write on a user's "talk" page, that user will get an alerting message on their next visit.
 6. If you need help with anything, talk to one of our administrators who can answer most of your questions and assist with problems.
Thanks, and have a good time here, Miles of SmashWiki!

Help pages

Just wondering which pages you were going to adapt from SmashWiki. I was going to update and organize the help contents template, so they link the proper articles that you're putting up.

By the way, thanks for all of the stub organization/template work you've done lately! It helps a lot. :D →Tinā δ 14:19, 29 December 2010 (MST)

Hey, no problem. Pretty much everything in the "Help pages" row of this template is what I've worked with, and I think most of it is pretty generic and could be very easily tweaked for WikiBound (like the three of them that I already did). I'd say you can direct where I go from here.
Next up on my tweaking list: the disambig template. (You'll see in a sec.) Miles (talk) 16:39, 29 December 2010 (MST)

Sign

I wanted to make my own signature, but I can't! Can you help me? I want: HomeRunBat to appear. Home is red and link to my userpage, Run is orange and links to my talk and Bat is yellow and link to my contribs. Can you please help?--HomeRunBat 12:32, 9 May 2011 (MDT)

Try
<font color="red">Home</font><font color"orange">Run</font><font color="yellow">Bat</font>
which should generate
HomeRunBat.

Question about Clayman

The spoiler tag overlaps with the enemy table, I tried to fix it but it looked kinda ugly when I previewed, can you give it a try?
Multus 14:47, 11 May 2011 (MDT)

I'm not seeing an overlap. Again, I'd hazard a guess it's a browser-based issue. Do you have a screenshot of what you're seeing? Miles (talk) 14:58, 11 May 2011 (MDT)
Probably browser-based. This is what I'm getting when using Chrome, though it looks perfectly normal when using, say, IE. Google Chrome apparently tends to be evil when visting here. Weird stuff. ~ Sun Braid 15:18, 11 May 2011 (MDT)
It's a common error with Chrome- centered templates tend to not work very well with it, sadly. There's a workaround for it, which I should really get around to implementing... ugh. lol. →Tinā δ 15:55, 11 May 2011 (MDT)

Hey, When you get a chance....

Hey when you get a chance, can you check out something i have been working on in my sandbox. Thank you, Tacopill 09:13, 22 May 2011 (MDT),

Hey, that's pretty interesting. At some point, we might generate stubs-for-editing that way on the community portal or the Main Page. Right now, though, manual updating has seemed to be fine. Is there some reason to switch? Miles (talk) 09:15, 22 May 2011 (MDT)
No specific reason. Was just trying it out, and wanted to see what people thought.
Also, the lists don't necessarily have to be stubs, they can be any category we have on the wiki. Stubs was just the best example i can think of. Tacopill 11:31, 22 May 2011 (MDT).
Cool, alright. Miles (talk) 11:45, 22 May 2011 (MDT)
Sounds good, and thank you. Tacopill 12:06, 22 May 2011 (MDT).

Recovery Items EarthBound

Yo, thanks a lot for fixing that issue, I had no idea of why everytime I tried to fix it, it would change and mess itself (I tried by previewing a lot of time)I will add the remaining items soon, thanks again lopl--Fandangox 18:56, 28 May 2011 (MDT)

Hey, no problem, lol. It might be a browser thing glitching it up, or else something relating to the editing toolbar (if you have that on in your preferences it can cause problems). Thanks for the hard work! Miles (talk) 19:43, 28 May 2011 (MDT)
eeh I think that what happened happened cause I was using shift + enter instead of just enter to make space... derp sorry lol--Fandangox 20:49, 28 May 2011 (MDT)
Such things happen, lol. Miles (talk) 21:11, 28 May 2011 (MDT)

Items in Mother 3

Should we have a template or something for the second item? Er more importantly, can a template go in a template? Multus 17:00, 29 May 2011 (MDT)

We probably should have a variation, but to be quite honest what you're currently doing seems to be working perfectly. (Great work, by the way. We're almost done!) Miles (talk) 17:02, 29 May 2011 (MDT)

Character Sprites/images

Just want to know if all the character sprites for EarthBound have been uploaded, and what are their names (the search function on the upload log is weird, and it takes me a long time to find an specific file there). So I can create the info boxes of the missing character pages from EarthBound.--Fandangox 00:26, 30 May 2011 (MDT)

The sprites are intermittently uploaded, and if they're not already in an article but they have been uploaded they'll show up in here somewhere. Don't forget clay models where available! Miles (talk) 00:41, 30 May 2011 (MDT)

Sorry for forgetting the sitenotice.

Sorry for forgetting the sitenotice. Thank you for posting it. :). Tacopill 15:12, 2 June 2011 (MDT).

No problem, lol. Miles (talk) 15:18, 2 June 2011 (MDT)

While you're going through the enemies...

Can you mark which ones don't have their Japanese names up, please? Multus 14:52, 14 July 2011 (EDT)

I will from here on out; can you check the ones that need it before Magnet Hill? Miles (talk) 14:53, 14 July 2011 (EDT)
All EB enemies either have their Japanese names up or have been tagged. Miles (talk) 16:14, 14 July 2011 (EDT)

Music/Combo sounds

Would it be OK to do what you did with music--Great job on that by the way :) -- for the combo sound effects?(For the main characters, or at least for the fake frying pan/bat. I know 'I' didn't have the money to buy them both on my first playthrough, and it haunted me...) Multus 21:33, 7 October 2011 (EDT)

Where exactly were you planning on putting those links? Miles (talk) 21:54, 7 October 2011 (EDT)
There's a few things I could do, but I'm thinking a little optional slot on the character infobox. (Maybe a show/hide thing. Not sure.) and putting Fake bat/pan sound off to the side next to the trivia referencing the changed combo sound. Multus 21:59, 7 October 2011 (EDT)
Sounds fine. Where are you going to get ogg versions of those sound effects, though? Miles (talk) 22:45, 7 October 2011 (EDT)
It's not too hard to make them, actually. I'm just gonna rip them directly from the game, most likely. I'm not sure whether to do 1 hit or all 3, though... Multus 22:54, 7 October 2011 (EDT)
Keep in mind there are six patterns of three notes for each playable character, plus one set of three for each Fake item. (Five of Duster's are unused, seemingly by a bug.) Miles (talk) 00:06, 8 October 2011 (EDT)
Yeah, might have to do just a short 1-hit sample, because looking into the games coding went to no avail, and it isn't easy to combo without sound, haha. (It was so easy to break into Mother1+2's sound, though... what a bummer.) The problem is the combo sounds aren't single sound effects, they're separate bits pieced together. :/ Multus 14:21, 8 October 2011 (EDT)
It is possible to start a battle in M3 with no battle song; however, doing so makes it seemingly impossible to combo, unfortunately. If you want to try it out, go for the Wine Glass (ff). Miles (talk) 15:41, 8 October 2011 (EDT)
Well, I did it. It's a shame, I hacked the no music enemy to have its song have a different BPM and you still can't combo, even with cheats... Multus 04:05, 9 October 2011 (EDT)
Still, though, nicely done! Though you did miss Claus.... Miles (talk) 04:21, 9 October 2011 (EDT)
Naaaaw I didn't forget Claus, I swear ;P (the reason was Lucas-Salsa is 01-06, Claus is 0D...) Multus 04:28, 9 October 2011 (EDT)

Ayo

Glad to be here. I probably won't be editing too much, but I'll try to contribute at least a bit. Cheers. Bloc Partier 23:13, 13 October 2011 (EDT)

Nonlinear template?

I think for articles like Mother and Chapter 7 it would probably be good to have a template for when you can do things out of order... Would that be okay? Multus 03:21, 24 October 2011 (EDT)

It sounds decent in theory. Could I see an example of what you're thinking? Miles (talk) 03:26, 24 October 2011 (EDT)
I'm thinking maybe an optional spot for the type, such as chapter or section. Maybe something that says "the summary below... blah blah recommended order."Multus 03:38, 24 October 2011 (EDT)
Warning! This {type} may be completed in any order.

It's not that clear-cut though. You can't get Lydia's needle before Doria's, for example. Miles (talk) 03:40, 24 October 2011 (EDT)

Warning! This {type} may no longer be completed in a nonlinear order.

Ugh, Lydia has to mess everything up. It could still work in theory, like we could say something like ...After pulling Doria's needle, The Squeekz... Multus 03:46, 24 October 2011 (EDT)

Or maybe something like this... Multus 03:50, 24 October 2011 (EDT)
Warning! This {type} may be completed in an order other than the order shown in the {type} below.

Enemy PSI Strength

On my attack table for Einswine, you stated that the damage range for its offensive PSI is the same as it is for the player characters. However (in my experience, at least), Mother 3 enemies (unlike EarthBound enemies) do considerably less damage than player characters when using offensive PSI. That means that the damage range you used is inaccurate. Have you noticed this when you play the game; do you agree with this? If so, how can we accurately represent the offensive PSI damage range of Mother 3 enemies? Also, I'm really grateful that you've been fixing these fails I've been having with the attack tables (me being a newbie and all), and I'll try not to fail so much in the future! Thanks! AquaAzure 22:25, 7 January 2012 (EST)

It's a tough call. Part of the goal was to standardize the M3 tables with the EB ones, but I agree that the damage is not consistent. Part of the reason I'd held off on M1 and M3 attack templates was that to my knowledge there's no resource which exhaustively lists all of the enemies' possible actions (where EB has this). Miles (talk) 23:27, 7 January 2012 (EST)
Hmm. Yeah, I'm gonna hold off on making attack tables for PSI-capable enemies for that reason until someone can find a solution. For normal enemies, I can find the rarely-used attack patterns by defending through enough turns, but it takes a long time...Are there any more-important projects that I should be looking into instead? Thanks! AquaAzure 23:55, 7 January 2012 (EST)
You can always help with expanding non-enemy stubs. We have... a lot of them. Miles (talk) 00:19, 8 January 2012 (EST)

@Azure Haha... Yes, we do have a lot of stubs... It's a lot different and poses some challenges having an editing team as small as this wiki's. There's a lot of things that can be done to help, though. A small fraction of things to do can be found here, but that's just a slice of the pie, so to speak. (Or cake, if you're a cake person, I suppose.) We would do a project system probably if our editing team was a bit larger, I'd think.

@Miles: Hum... I did some searching around for a listing for the Mother 3 enemy attacks, and turned up nothing. I might have to go browse Google Japan for a Japanese listing maybe, but a solution for this should hopefully be found soon. :/ Most of the enemy pages are only stubs because of the attack tables. Multus 01:20, 8 January 2012 (EST)

EB0 enemies This might be helpful. It does not include the basic attack though. Multus 00:22, 14 January 2012 (EST)

Hey

Thanks for the help with the formatting on Eerie Smile; I wasn't sure what left all those little extra symbols, so I tried cleaning it up a bit. El Geesus (talk) 22:54, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

No problem. Trying to lay out four of those infoboxes in a 2x2 grid doesn't seem like it would be that tough, but it's a real mess code-wise. Glad to see a new editor around! Miles (talk) 23:25, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Funny thing about that; I'm actually Lord Grammaticus of the Earthbound Wikia. I figured I should help here as well, and in fact, I was wondering if I could take a few cues from your wiki - that is to say, I need to work on how pages and templates are formatting and get them as neat as yours. El Geesus (talk) 02:02, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
TBH, a lot of our editors have a lot of problems with the EarthBound Wikia; it has a lot of errors and assumptions presented as facts, and a lot of presentation problems (no spoiler protection, for example). We're not averse to having new editors from there, but recognize that we do not really want to associate with that site. Not to mention, NIWA is intentionally counter-Wikia. Miles (talk) 02:12, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
Haha, not a problem, I'm just here to do what I can. Though I'm also hoping I can learn how to correct those errors you've mentioned - not that I haven't been trying, but it hasn't seen much activity aside from mine as of late. El Geesus (talk) 02:40, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Bureaucrat commands

I don't have access to the Text Replace function; can you do a replace for Pig Army to Pigmask Army for me? BB Gang Zombie (talk) 19:37, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Brandondorf's block

Has clearly sparked quite a bit of backlash, given the edit war on recent changes. From what I understand, he made an edit inserting fanon into the page, and received a permaban. Do you have an explanation for the block, given that it apparently caused controversy among other users? Mr. Anon (talk) 17:24, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

How about any of these? He has a history all over and considering his first edit was blatantly non-constructive, I think he has burned any benefit of the doubt I might've given him. Miles (talk) 17:30, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
Is offsite activity grounds for banning here, according to any policies? If so, it should be clarified. While his edit may have been rightly removed, it was in good faith and (as far as I know) was an accurate description of a fangame containing Giygas. Also, while he was disruptive in SmashWiki, he was not permabanned there, whereas his block was immediately made permanent here (something almost never applied to first edit violations, especially if the edit was in good faith). Mr. Anon (talk) 03:52, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't want to have to dance around the subject when it's clear he was showing no signs of changing his behavior that has gotten him banned repeatedly on so many other wikis. Miles (talk) 05:13, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

MRS SATURN vandalism

Miles, this is in regard to the recent vandalism by Mrs. Saturn. I have been individually undoing her article edits, and on her vandalism she deletes almost all information on a page , then says that the page is not officiall and needs to be deleted. I no that this needed to come to your attention, Please let me hear from you Gpev96 (SHAZAM!) 13:33, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
