Coins (Japanese: コイン Coin) are equippable items in Mother and EarthBound. They do in both games increase the wearer's Defense, and do additionally also raise the wearer's Luck in EarthBound.
In Mother
The Coins in Mother have their own equipment slot, being displayed second from the top in the equipment subscreen on the status screen. They are comparable with the Rings of the same game, as they both serve the same defense-raising purpose and they both have their own equipment slots, although the rings generally increase the user's defense with a bit more in terms of value.
Peace Coin
The Peace Coin (やすらぎのコイン Peace Coin) increases the user's defense by 5 when equipped. It can be purchased for $260 from one of the three gift shops in the northeastern portion of the town square in Magicant, being the shop located to the left of the other two.
In-game description
"When you USE it, DEFENSE goes up a little bit."
Protection Coin
The Protection Coin, alternatively ProtectCoin, (まもりのコイン Protection Coin) increases the user's defense by 11 when equipped. It can be purchased for $648 from one of the three gift shops in the northeastern portion of the town square in Magicant, being the shop located to the left of the other two.
The appearance of the Protection Coin in the Encyclopedia Mother is that of an Israeli 1 agora coin.

Magic Coin
The Magic Coin (まふうじのコイン Magic Seal Coin) increases the user's defense by 20 when equipped. It can be purchased for $1200 from one of the three gift shops in the northeastern portion of the town square in Magicant, being the shop located to the left of the other two. Red Snakes do occasionally drop Magic Coins after being defeated.
