Carbon Dog is the 8th and final Sanctuary Boss fought in EarthBound. It guards Fire Spring, the last Your Sanctuary location in the game. When fighting Carbon Dog, Paula or Jeff should be equipped with a Flame Pendant. During the fight, Ness's best bet would be to use PSI Rockin, Paula should use PSI Freeze, Jeff should use bazookas, and Poo should use PSI Starstorm, minding his PP. Carbon Dog can't use PSI during this stage. Carbon Dog's attacks include spewing a fireball, which is a regular fire attack, making a piercing howl that has no effect, using a low level bite attack, shooting out a spray of fire (PSI Fire Ω), and to charge forward, which is a high level attack. After being defeated, Carbon Dog turns into Diamond Dog.

Diamond Dog is the 2nd form of Carbon Dog. It appears when Carbon Dog's HP goes below a certain amount. Diamond Dog has higher defenses and offense than Carbon Dog, but is less gutsy. It also has PSI. When Diamond Dog is fought, Ness should be equipped with a Night Pendant or Star Pendant and either Paula or Jeff should have a Star Pendant equipped if you have another. During the fight, Ness, Paula, and Poo should use their best physical PSI and Jeff should use bottle rockets, and it would be best if their HP stayed above 150. Diamond Dog's attacks include Shield β, emitting a glorious light (PSI Flash Ω]], a low level and high level biting attack, making a piercing howl that does nothing, and biting the target hard to Diamondize them. After the fight, Diamond Dog yields 337738 exp. and $6968.
