He attempts to convert Ness into Happy-Happyism, however it is a trap which allows him attack Ness with lightning. However, Ness's Franklin Badge reflects it, so he must now be fought. After being defeated, Mr. Carpainter apologizes for his behavior. He explains that he acted the way he did because he was being controlled by the [[Mani-Mani Statue]], which can be found behind him.
