Unofficial Sources
Heya! I saw you leave someone else a suspension note for posting images from unofficial sources. Now, I always link my images out of common courtesy and to share my sources with other fandom members easier, but what would an unofficial source be? Fan art? I probably intend to post self-taken screenshots at some point, but I wouldn't know how to credit those properly. I assume "self-taken screenshot" is a fine source though... Thanks! :You're on the right track there. The file that I was referencing came from DeviantArt, rather than a official Nintendo website, fan news site or media site with officially published art. DeviantArt is an art site with people loading up their own art, not official art, so us having it here makes it look like it is an official piece of art.
:Fan-generated content is allowed under specific circumstances, and only allowed when we take steps to make sure that we show the difference, that we give the artist credit and explain why we are using fan art. This includes "self-taken screenshots" since we often are lifting them directly from the game and have a fair-use justification for their use.
:All of the above is some of the reasons it is import to link to the page the download came from. Hope this clears it up. Tacopill (talk) 12:10, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Makes sense to me. Oh, one question though, in retrospect, I realize I uploaded some fan translated images, but they are official in source: these three (:File:Doug_bio.png, :File:Lloyd_bio.png, :File:Ana_bio.png) to be exact. I'd have little means to find the original Japanese versions though. What's the stance on fan translated images? :Linking to the fan translation is fine, for now. If an official translation is released, then we should replace these with stuff from that.
:Related, we're creating a new template to provide related links and the information on the file pages. I recommend you join in. Tacopill (talk) 22:17, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Perfect, thank you! I've been using that template! You might have to remind others to use it, but I like the organization behind it. Mysthalery (talk) 04:44, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Requesting rights returned
Per WikiBound:Administrators#Current_Administrators, I would like to return to my staff position on the site, please. Trig -  18:48, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
