Guns will raiser the holder's [[Status#Offense|Offense]] when equipped.  They are the signiture weapons of Lloyd and Jeff. Many of Jeff's guns can only be obtained by fixing [[broken items]]. In ''EarthBound'' guns use the "Shoot" command instead of the typical "Bash" command. As a result, their damage output is unaffected by [[Shield]]s and are incapable of getting {{smashhit}} hits. Guns are capable of getting {{smashhit}} hits in ''[[Mother 1+2]]'', it is unknown if this was intentional or an oversight.
 
One gun is also present in ''[[Mother 3]]'', namely the [[Saltwater Gun]] which is super effective against mechanical enemies, however it is not an equippable item and is instead a one use battle item.
