This is a list of battle items in EarthBound Beginnings. A number of them are only usable by Lloyd. Certain battle items have effects that mimic those of PSI techniques.

Bomb

The Bomb (ボム Bomb) is an item only usable by Lloyd, and does about 60-80 HP of PK Fire damage to all enemies. It can be purchased for $280 in the department store of Reindeer, and is occasionally dropped by a Bomber. Four bombs can also be found in presents throughout Duncan's Factory, and one can be found in the maze-like caves of Mt. Itoi. Bombs can be used by Bombers and Star Miners in battle.

The PSI equivalent of the Bomb is PK Fire β.

"Maybe only Lloyd can detonate it."

Bottle Rocket

The Bottle Rocket (ペンシルロケット Pencil Rocket), alternatively BottlRocket, is an item only usable by Lloyd, which deals about 20 HP of PK Fire damage to all enemies. One can be found in a waste container in the northwestern part of Sweet's Little Factory and two can be found in the southeastern part of Duncan's Factory. The Bottle Rocket in Sweet's Little Factory must be obtained in order to make Lloyd join Ninten's party. Even though the item cannot be purchased anywhere in the game, there's an infinite source of them inside the trash can in Sweet's Little Factory.

The PSI equivalent of the Bottle Rocket is PK Fire α.

Bullhorn

The Bullhorn (ふしぎなメガホン Mysterious Megaphone) is an infinitely reusable item, which only can be obtained once in the game, which is from a present in Queen Mary's Castle. When used in-battle, the one using it will shout "Your mother is calling for you!" to one of the opponents, which can result in one of two stat-affecting changes; it either decreases the enemy's fight by making it believe what was said, or increases its offense by failing with convincing it, and thus making it angry.

The Hippie is the only enemy capable of using this item.

"Your amplified voice may intimidate an enemy."

Flame Thrower

The Flame Thrower (かえんほうしゃき Flame Thrower), alternatively Fl Thrower, is a reusable item, which only Lloyd is able to utilize, and deals about 100 HP of PK Fire damage to one enemy. It cannot be purchased in any stores of the game, but is occasionally dropped by a Bla-Bla Gang member. It has a 12.5% chance of breaking after being used.

The PSI equivalent of the Flame Thrower is PK Fire γ.

"Toasts the enemy, but only Lloyd can use it."

Flashdark

The Flashdark (やみのライト Darkness Light) is an infinitely reusable item, which only can only be achieved once in the game, being in a present in Queen Mary's Castle. It serves the same function as the PSI ability Darkness, as it decreases the opponent's accuracy by blinding it.

"The opposite of a flashlight."

Flea Bag

The Flea Bag (ノミとしらみ Fleas and Lice) causes one enemy's defense and offense to be lowered. The item can be endlessly obtained from a girl in the southern part of Reindeer by giving her any item in exchange. It is also occasionally dropped by Stray Dogs.

In-game description

"A bag of fleas and other nasty critters. Throw at an enemy and watch the effect!"

Insecticide

Not to be confused with the Insecticide spray from EarthBound.

The Insecticide (さっちゅうスプレー Insecticide Spray) is a reusable item, which can be bought for $300 in the department stores of Podunk and Merrysville. It can instantly kill arthropod-based enemies, which include BionicCentis, BionicScorps Centipedes, Flies, Scorpions, Spiders and Tarantulas. It has a 12.5% chance of breaking after being used. The Super Spray is an improved version of it.

In-game description

"It has an irritating effect on bugs."

Laser Beam

The Laser Beam (レーザービーム Laser Beam) is a reusable item, which only can be utilized by Lloyd. It deals about 30-40 HP of PK Beam damage to one enemy, and can be bought for $760 in the department store of Reindeer. It is also occasionally dropped by Giga Borgs and Scrappers. An improved item with similar properties is the Plasma Beam. It has a 12.5% chance of breaking after use.

The PSI equivalent of the Laser Beam is PK Beam α. In the Japanese Famicom version, the Laser Beam is unpurchasable, and can thus only be obtained by beating Giga Borgs or Scrappers.

Plasma Beam

The Plasma Beam (デスビーム Death Beam) is a reusable item, which only can be utilized by Lloyd. It deals about 80 HP of PK Beam damage to one enemy, and can be bought for $1300 in the department store of Reindeer. It is also occasionally dropped by UltraBarbots. It's an improved version of the Laser Beam, and has a 12.5% chance of breaking after use.

The PSI equivalent of the Laser Beam is PK Beam β. In the Japanese Famicom version, the Plasma Beam is unpurchasable, and can thus only be obtained by beating UltraBarbots.

Rope

The Rope (ロープ Rope) can be bought for $600 in the department stores of Merrysville and Ellay. It causes an enemy to be bound with it when used, and makes the enemy unable to do anything for a certain amount of turns, before it manages to escape from it. Ropes can be found on the first floor of the Superintendent's Office, in the western part of Sweet's Little Factory, in Duncan's Factory (where three can be found), and in the lower left present in the room where only one of six presents can be opened in Queen Mary's Castle. Ropes are occasionally also dropped by Rope enemies.

Ruler

The Ruler (ものさし Ruler) is an infinitely reusable gag item, which can be purchased for $22 in the department store of Merrysville. Its only purpose is to measure things when used in-battle, which serves no virtual function. A ruler can also be found in the lower centralized present in the room in Queen Mary's Castle where only one of six presents is openable.

Sticky Machine

The Sticky Machine (ねばねばマシン or ねばねばマシーン Sticky Machine), alternatively StkyMachine, is a reusable item, which only can be utilized by Lloyd. It can be purchased for $3200 from the Mysterious Teacher in Twinkle Elementary School after Lloyd has joined Ninten's party. Its function is similar to the Rope's, as it temporarily makes one enemy unable to do anything. It has a 12.5% chance of breaking after use.

Super Bomb

The Super Bomb (スーパーボム Super Bomb) is an item only usable by Lloyd, which can be purchased for $1800 from the Mysterious Teacher in Twinkle Elementary School after Lloyd has joined Ninten's party. It instantly kills all enemies during a battle, with bosses as exceptions. Super Bombs are occasionally dropped by Star Miners.

The PSI equivalent of the Super Bomb is PK Fire Ω.

"Written on the side "Beware of blast", only Lloyd can use it."

Super Spray

The Super Spray (スーパースプレー Super Spray) is an infinitely reusable item, which only can be obtained once in the game, which is from a present in the eastern portion of Duncan's Factory. It serves the same function as Insecticide, except for the fact that it can be used for an endless amount of times, meaning that it can kill arthropod-based enemies; which include BionicCentis, BionicScorps, Centipedes, Flies, Scorpions, Spiders and Tarantulas.

"Industrial strength Insecticide."

Swear Words

The Swear Words (のろいのことば Curse Words) is an infinitely reusable gag item, which can be obtained from Able once he's been given a Strawberry Tofu. When utilized in battle, the text "I hate you." is displayed, which virtually does not serve any real purpose.

The Words of Love, alternatively WordsO'Love, (あいのことば Words of Love) is an infinitely reusable gag item, which can be obtained from a doctor on an island near Ellay when he has been given a Strawberry Tofu. When used in battle, the text "I love you." is displayed, virtually doing nothing.
