Hinawa is a very loving and motherly person, close to many of the villagers of Tazmily. She enjoys cooking homemade foods and loves flowers, especially sunflowers and Tazmily gerberas.
In Chapter 1
In Chapter 1, she gets lost with her children in the mountains on the way back from their vacation. Wandering around in the fire and later the rain, Hinawa ends up getting attacked by a reconstructed Drago, and is killed by it. The townspeople hold a funeral for her, and Nippolyte builds a grave on the eastern side of the Sunset Cemetery, next to a patch of sunflowers. Flint becomes obsessed with his wife's death, and frequently visits her grave, often placing flowers there.

Hinawa's death causes much shock and sadness to the village. Claus goes as far as to avenge her, and runs away to with one of his father's knives to fight the Drago. Lucas becomes even more shut in than usual, staying inside the house for days on end and rarely talking to anyone. Many of the other townspeople were close to her, as well.

In Chapter 4
At Hinawa's grave, Flint can be found paying his respects, and asks Lucas to do the same. While Lucas is deep in thought with memories of her and the family being together, Flint leaves.
In Chapter 6
Lucas and Boney are guided through the Sunflower Fields near Tazmily Village by an apparition of Hinawa. Leading them off a cliff, the two land safely in a pile of brush near the Old Man's Paradise that was set up by Alec. Alec then claims he saw Hinawa in a dream and was told to pile them in that exact spot.
In Chapter 7
Boney drags Lucas to Hinawa's grave, where Nippolyte is found paying his respects. He reflects on Flint's obsessive nature, visiting Hinawa's grave and searching for Claus, and gives Lucas the Courage Badge in Flint's stead.
In Chapter 8
During the final fight with the Masked Man, then revealed to be Claus, Hinawa's voice scolds Lucas and Claus for fighting and begs Claus to come to his senses and join her. With Hinawa's words eventually coming through to him, the Masked Man removes his mask, and sends one more intense burst of lightning too powerful for him to withstand, ending his life and leaving the final Needle to Lucas.
