From the point of release in 1989 to the most recent release of the series in 2006, the status of the Mother series of games is always a priority to a lot of gamers. Many fansites have requested remakes, re-releases, and translated versions of games to be released in other parts of the world besides the Japanese market, but that has not been the case in recent years. Although the series has a following unlike any other, it is uncertain if the series will ever be revisited again. On several occasions, the series' creator Shigesato Itoi has shown interest in seeing a new release in the series, but he has officially announced multiple times that there will not be a Mother 4, even right after the third game's release. [1][2][3] New merchandise is still released occasionally, however.
