Teleport is a PSI technique, introduced in EarthBound Beginnings. It allows the user and their party to teleport to any locations they have previously visited.
Overview
Teleport was first introduced in EarthBound Beginnings. When Teleport is initiated, the party begins to run in a straight line while their speed gradually increases, and then they will warp to the chosen location. The player can change the direction the characters are running using the d-pad. Teleport will fail if one of the party members crash into an object, leaving them in black ash and being forced to try again.
In EarthBound Beginnings a psychic baby in Youngtown teaches Ninten and Ana this technique when they talk to it via Telepathy. This technique can not be used while Eve is in the party. It can, however, be used inside buildings and caves, and because of this, many players use this technique to avoid enemies. Because of the change from tile based to pixel based movement, teleporting in a straight line covers more distance and can be more cumbersome to pull off in Mother 1+2.
In EarthBound Ness is taught Teleport α after he meets Talah Rama in the monkey caves of Dusty Dunes Desert by a monkey. He later learns Teleport β after defeating his nightmare in Magicant, and obtaining the powers of the Eight Sanctuaries. Teleport α functions the same as Teleport in EarthBound Beginnings, while Teleport β instead has all the characters spinning in a circle when initiated. The main advantage Teleport β has over Teleport α is that it requires less overworld space to perform. In EarthBound, Teleport can not be used inside caves or buildings.

In the Super Smash Bros. series
Teleport is used by Ness when entering the stage in all games except Super Smash Bros. Melee. During his on-screen appearance, he teleports onto the stage and crashes while gathering black ash, referencing a failed attempt at teleportation. Additionally, he also uses it in the opening movie of Melee, where he is seen teleporting into Onett.
