Mother 1 Franklin Badge coloration

First off that image of a M3 FB uploaded by Miles years ago is actually fake so it'll need to be removed.

Anyways the topic here has to do with the color of M1's FB. The popular belief is the 200 badges in the contest had a gold background instead of white like the one shown in Encyclopedia Mother and M3's badges released as part of the deluxe box, as discussed here. I was doing research to find a higher quality photo of M1's badge and came across this tweeter post which reveals that the badges actually were white originally, but discolored overtime (you know how certain white materials turn yellow after a few years). The issue is that if reading through the comments on the EarthBound Central post, there was an earlier post where someone found authentic M1 badges in supposedly "mint condition", however the picture shows a badge where the background is clearly yellow instead of white. However it is possible the one in the picture could've been a badge that discolored overtime as these were found years after the contest, or it was taken in poor lighting.

So there is a bit of confusion as to which one of these are true, if yellow was actually the original color or if they originally were white but discolored overtime. The one difference that is 100% true is that for M1's badges the "Mother" logo is a brighter red while M3's logo is a deeper red (see the infobox image for comparison, which is a 100% legit photograph of M3's badge cropped for transparency). If anyone is curious, while it's less prone to happen, it actually is possible for M3's badge to turn yellow if exposed to extreme sunlight as seen here, notice the darker red background which clearly shows that this is a M3 badge.

tldr: Which of these is true: 1: Mother 1's badges were originally white but discolored yellow overtime due to age. 2: Mother 1's badges were originally yellow to begin with. As a side note it turns out the image of M1's badge on this article is actually a M3 one believe it or not, so that will need to be changed as well. Imma say number 1. But I will agree with it being a M3 badge. S3AHAWK (talk)S3AHAWK SIG.png 07:58, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
