PK Freeze is a PSI attack, introduced in EarthBound Beginnings. It has a variety of effects between games, but the most common effect is hitting a single enemy for ice-based damage. PK Freeze is learned by Ana in EarthBound Beginnings, Paula and Poo in EarthBound, and Kumatora in Mother 3.

Overview

PK Freeze is depicted as an ice based PSI power attacking a target to do ice damage. The effectiveness of PK Freeze differs depending on the enemy, as enemies associated with cold are more resistant to it, and enemies associated with heat are more vulnerable to it. Additionally characters with the Fire Pendant (in EarthBound Beginnings) or Rain Pendant (in EarthBound) equipped will be resistant to it.

PK Freeze's main purpose is to be a single-target PSI attack with a high damage output, with tiers attacking only a single target. Starting with EarthBound it has a chance of freezing the target to prevent them from moving for 1 turn, and has a chance of reducing a PSI Shield's strength by 1. In EarthBound and Mother 3 it has the highest damage output of the main elemental PSI attacks, in EarthBound it is rivaled by PSI Rockin Ω and PK Starstorm Ω.

In EarthBound Beginnings PK Freeze is slightly different, in that Ω targets all opponents instead of one, although all other tiers are single target. PK Freeze is also noticeably weaker than in succeeding, the exception is PK Freeze γ which lowers the target's HP to "critical situation" to the point where almost any weak attack will defeat the them.

In the Super Smash Bros. series

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, PK Freeze is Lucas's neutral special move. By holding the special attack button, the player can angle the freeze attack and releasing it will cause the attack to activate. Any fighters caught in the blast will be frozen and shot into the air. However, the attack will leave Lucas vulnerable and it won't work if it hits the ground.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Ness can use the attack as one of his custom moves. He also uses a different voice clip.
