PK Fire is Ness' side special attack. It functions the same as in the original.
Ness's variant of PK Fire shoots a lightning bolt in a slight downward angle. When it hits a player it ignites into a pillar of fire that continuesly burn an opponent for a short period of time.

*'''PK Bonfire''': The lightning bolt doesn't travel as far, but the pillar of fire is larger and lasts longer.
PK Fire is still the side special attack of Ness and Lucas.
*'''PK Fire burst''': Ignites into a single burst, functioning identically to Lucas's variant.

Due to Lucas's status as a {{sw|downloadable character}} he does not have custom variants of PK Fire.

PK Fire is a PSI attack, introduced in EarthBound Beginnings. It has a variety of effects between games, but the most common effect is hitting multiple enemies for fire-based damage. PK Fire is learned by Ana in EarthBound Beginnings, Paula in EarthBound, and Kumatora in Mother 3.

Overview

PK Fire is a fire-based PSI attack that the user summons from their fingers. Damage output depends on the enemy as enemies associated with ice are more vulnerable to the attack, additionally characters with the H2o Pendant (in EarthBound Beginnings) or the Flame Pendant (in EarthBound) equipped will be more resistant to it.

PK Fire of all tiers is a multi-target PSI attack. In EarthBound Beginnings and Mother 3 PK Fire targets all opponents on screen. In EarthBound the targeting is slightly different, instead it only targets all enemies in a selected row.in EarthBound Beginnings only Ω one-hit KOs all opponents on screen, including ones that are unnaffected by PK Beam γ. PK Fire can also cause secondary effects: In EarthBound and Mother 3 it has the possibility of decreasing one of the targets' PSI Shield strength by 1, and in Mother 3 only it can setting the target on fire, causing them to gradually take damage every turn.

Lloyd's explosives in EarthBound Beginnings all share the effects of each PK Fire tier: Bottle Rockets are α, Bombs are β, Flamethrowers (the only reusable one unlike the others) are γ, and Super Bombs are Ω, though Super Bombs inflict recoil damage on Lloyd unlike PK Fire Ω.

In EarthBound Beginnings the explosion caused when certain enemies are defeated are also equal to PK Fire.

Learnset and damage output

In EarthBound Beginnings

Rank Effect PP Characters Level learned
α 18-22 points of damage to every enemy 8 Ana 17
β 50-60 points of damage to every enemy 12 Ana 27
γ 95-110 points of damage to every enemy 14 Ana 31
Ω Instantly knocks out every enemy 30 Ana 35

In EarthBound

Rank Effect PP Characters Level learned
α 60-100 points of damage to one row of enemies 6 Paula 3
β 120-200 points of damage to one row of enemies 12 Paula 19
γ 180-300 points of damage to one row of enemies 20 Paula 37
Ω 240-400 points of damage to one row of enemies 42 Paula 64

In Mother 3

Rank Effect PP Characters Level learned
α 60-80 points of damage to all enemies 6 Kumatora 3
β 120-140 points of damage to all enemies 12 Kumatora 23
γ 200-320 points of damage to all enemies 20 Kumatora 43
Ω 280-320 points of damage to all enemies 40 Kumatora 53

Mother 3 introduced a new secondary effect for PK Fire, adding a chance of setting an enemy on fire, and take a small amount of damage for several turns. The chance depends on the enemy, with some being more flammable than others.

In the Super Smash Bros. series

PK Fire SSB.jpg

PK Fire appears in every Super Smash Bros. game. It was Ness's neutral special in Super Smash Bros., before being moved to his side special in Super Smash Bros. Melee when PK Flash took its place. When Lucas was introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl he too also has PK Fire as his side special. It's implied that Paula and Kumatora taught Ness and Lucas respectively how to use PK Fire, as neither could learn PK Fire in the EarthBound series.

Ness

Ness's variant of PK Fire shoots a lightning bolt in a slight downward angle. When it hits a player it ignites into a pillar of fire that continuesly burn an opponent for a short period of time.

Lucas

Lucas's is for the most part the same as Ness's, however the lightning bolt goes straight foward, and Lucas very is slightly pushed back during the firing animation. Instead of starting a pillar of fire it ignites in a single burst with low knockback.

Customs

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U Ness has two extra variants of PK Fire as custom special attacks:

  • PK Bonfire: The lightning bolt doesn't travel as far, but the pillar of fire is larger and lasts longer.
  • PK Fire burst: Ignites into a single burst, functioning identically to Lucas's variant.

Due to Lucas's status as a downloadable character he does not have custom variants of PK Fire.
