New Pork City (Japanese: ニューポークシティ New Pork City) is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The stage us based off of New Pork City from Mother 3 and is Lucas and Ness's home stage.

SmashWiki.png SmashWiki has information on New Pork City.

Layout

New Pork City is very large, one of the largest stages in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The fighting doesn't take place in the city itself, rather on various platforms in front of it. The left side of the stage has two main platforms and several soft platforms with a small slightly angled platform below.

The right of the stage has one large main platform and a "tower" of six soft platforms, there is also a pendulum platform that swings left and right.

The bottom of the stage is a small section consisting of a wooden cut-out building serving as a bridge then a solid platform that starts sloping down near edge to the left. The "bridge" can be destroyed if attacked enough times, and after a while it will respawn. Occasionally the limousine will appear from the left underneath the stage while moving right, which acts as a temporary platform until it goes off-screen.

The Ultimate Chimera can spawn in a random part of the stage. It is one of the most dangerous stage hazards in the game-- in Brawl touching it will send the player flying and instantly KOing them, unless one breaks their fall, while in Ultimate it instantly KO's antone who touches it. The only way it can be defeated aside from waiting for it to despawn is if it spawns on the lower-most part of the stage, and destroying the bridge is the Ultimate Chimera is walking on it.

In Ultimate the stage has been slightly updated aesthetically, with it having a more purple hue as opposed to a greenish-yellow.

EarthBound references

New Pork City is for the most part identical to its appearence in Mother 3, although the city itself in Smash is much larger and cramped, and has a slightly different layout.

Like Mother 3 most of the buildings that make up the city are actually wooden billboards rather than actual buildings. The Porky Statue is to the right of the stage although its location is different than its location in Mother 3.

The flying limousine that makes an appearence is a reference to how Lucas and his team arrived in New Pork through a flying limousine.

There are other minor elements in the city, such as the theater, the Beauty and Taste shop, the arcade, and the amusement park. The Empire Porky Building is the tallest building in the stage, referencing it being the tallest building in New Pork City having 100 floors.

The Ultimate Chimera being able to instantly KO players is based off of it being the most powerful being in Mother 3, where touching it results in an instant game over.

The pigmask symbol can be seen on various platforms on the stage.

Trivia

  • The stage is flying in Smash, despite it not being the case in Mother 3. This makes it inconsistant with how in Mother 3 the final area where the seventh needle is located is accessed through a cave system that is underneath the city.
  • In the background there are two arcades for unknown reasons.
  • The Empire Porky Building is so tall that it actually goes through the skybox in Brawl[1].
