EarthBound (Japanese: MOTHER2 ~ギーグの逆襲~ Mother 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back, title occasionally rendered as マザー2) is a role-playing game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System developed by Ape Inc. and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. It is the sequel to the Japan-only NES game, Mother. EarthBound was first released in Japan on August 27, 1994. The game was later released on June 2, 1995 in North America.

Story
Meteor Crash
The story of EarthBound starts with a young boy named Ness from the city of Onett. He hears about a recent meteor in the area. Going to the site, he is told to turn back and come later. Later that night, he is woken up by his neighbor Pokey, who requests for Ness' help to find his brother, Picky. They go the site of the meteor, and find not only Picky, but also a bee that came from the meteor. The bee introduces himself as Buzz Buzz, and tells Ness about a prophecy. This prophecy is about three boys and one girl going to save the world from Giygas. He then joins Ness, and in the middle of the adventure home, they meet Starman Junior, and a fight commences. Buzz Buzz protects the group with PSI Shield, and they manage to defeat Starman Junior safely. The group returns home, and Pokey and Picky are grounded. Buzz Buzz dies at this point, being killed by Pokey's mother and gives Ness the Sound Stone, instructing him to find eight sanctuaries and record songs from them. After that, Ness returns home, tells his mother about his adventure, and takes off. A bit later, he enters the main part of the town of Onett. The town is being terrorized by a group known as The Sharks. Ness decides to help the citizens, and defeats the Sharks, including their leader, Frank. After saving the town, the mayor allows him to go to Giant Step as thanks. There he battles and defeats the Titanic Ant, reaching the first sanctuary of the game.

A companion
After he leaves the Giant Step, he is stopped by cops. The cops attempt to kill him, though he beats all but one, which chickens out. He then defeats Captain Strong, who takes the place of that cop. Strong then opens up the path to Twoson for Ness. In the town, he goes through the rummage sale, and meets (and fights) Everdred. He then stops by Polestar Preschool, and finds the parents of a girl named Paula. They say that she was supposed to meet with him, receiving a dream saying something about a boy named Ness. She's gone, and Ness goes to the hotel to rest. She contacts him in a dream, asking for help. The only clue Ness is giving is water running in the distance. To find her, Ness goes east through a small cave into Peaceful Rest Valley. He then explores more, and goes through another cave. At the end is a happy place, known as Happy Happy Village. Many cultists chase Ness and he meets Mr. Carpainter and pays $50 to stay in the village and convert of Happy-Happyism. He then goes out of the cave he went through earlier, goes into a house, and sees Paula locked up. He tries to open the door, but learns that Mr. Carpainter has locked it. To help defeat Carpainter, Paula gives Ness a Franklin Badge. Ness exits the house, and sees cultists and Pokey, who was made an important person in Happy-Happyism. Being who he is, he makes the cultists and a crow fight Ness. Ness beats them, and Pokey runs away. He then faces many more cultists, and eventually Carpainter himself. To apologize, Carpainter gives Ness the key to release Paula. When he exits, he sees only 3 of the thousands of the cultists remaining, and then Pokey too. Pokey apologizes to Ness, but it was a lie. Ness then frees Paula, and she joins him to save the land. The duo then go into Liliput Steps, and take it back from Mondo Mole.

Milky Well
The duo then go back to Twoson, and go to the Chaos Theater. They find the Runaway Five here, who want to leave but can't due to having a debt to Poochyfud. Ness pays the debt, and to thank Ness and Paula, the band takes them to Threed. At Threed, Ness and Paula save the town from zombies.

Trivia
*ESRB, the American rating system for video games, stated that EarthBound was being released for the Wii's Virtual Console.Cite-needed This has yet to happen, however.
*EarthBound is somewhat infamous because of Nintendo's odd marketing campaign, which included the tagline "This game stinks!" (that was actually a reference to the included scratch-and-sniff cards). This may even have contributed to it's lack of success in America.Cite-needed

*The entire game's areas are connected to each other. If you do a glitch you can go anywhere, including Giygas's lair.

*The famous Youtube user Chuggaaconroy "Let's played" Earthbound as his first "LP".
Mother 1+2 is a compilation port of Mother and Mother 2 on the Game Boy Advance. It was released exclusively in Japan on June 20, 2003. The game was rumored by Electronic Gaming Mothly to have an international release after it's Japanese, though it had never happened. The games are mostly unaltered versions of the originals, though graphical changes had to be made to fit the Game Boy Advance's small screen size and the sound is not up to par with the originals. Nothing else major has been added or changed, though the Japanese version is more or less a Japanese translation of the NES Earth Bound prototype. The game's Japanese slogan is "Kids, grownups, and even young women! All over again!"
Poo is the prince of Dalaam, and after finishing his Mu training, learns that he is among the Chosen Four and must find and travel with Ness to save the world. Poo seems to be very friendly with the people in his kingdom, knowing many people personally. Ironically, however, he was the only character not to get a letter in the Saturn Valley from anybody else at the end of the game.

He is unique among the other characters in the party that he does not gain boosts from usual equipment, and has a special set of four items for his own use. They are the Sword of Kings, Cloak of Kings, Bracer of Kings and Diadem of Kings. Poo also does not gain much HP from eating regular food items, only being able to recover about 6 HP, unless he eats the Brain food lunch. He also is the only character to gain more than 1 PP from drinking a bottle of water or a bottle of DXwater, recovering 10 and 40 PP respectively.
Paula is a girl from the town of Twoson, who is kidnapped by Pokey and members of the Happy Happy Cult and must be saved by Ness. She has considerably more advanced psychic powers than Ness, shown to be able to use telepathy and being able to sense where to go next on occasion. Paula seems to be well-known throughout Twoson for her psychic abilities and helping out at the preschool.

She can also use the "pray" command in-battle, which has a large amount of random effects. Among these effects include restoring HP to party members, making both enemies and the party cry, and reviving both unconscious party members and enemies. The prayer command is also required to defeat Giygas in the final battle.

In EarthBound
In EarthBound, Ness goes to the town of Twoson. He then goes to the Polestar Preschool. Here, he meets Paula's parents and finds out that she had a dream about him. That night, Ness stays in the Twoson hotel. He receives a message through telepathy from Paula asking for Ness to save her. He finds her in a prison in Peaceful Rest Valley, and beats Mr. Carpainter to get the key for Paula. At this point, Paula joins the party. In Fourside, she is kidnapped again, this time by Mr. Monotoli. She is then rescued after the Mani-Mani Statue is destroyed. After the game is beaten, she gets a letter from the students of Polestar Preschool.
Would it be worthwhile to create a page for the alternate version (such as "Struttin' Evil Mushroom (Jeff)") and link to it rather than providing alternative stats, move sets, items, and sprites? Iamnotapipe 12:29, 21 November 2010 (MST)
Ness is a boy from the town of Onett. Ness is the protagonist of EarthBound. He is a gifted child with various PSI powers, and has the power to use each Your Sanctuary throughout the game to add some notes to the Sound Stone. Upon ridding his mind of all of the evil within him, Ness unlocks his true potential and becomes the absolute strongest member of his party.

In EarthBound
Ness's adventure first starts when a meteor crashes in Onett. He goes to investigate, but goes back. He later comes back with his neighbor Pokey to find Picky, Pokey's brother. While there, Ness meets Buzz Buzz who tells Ness about him going to save the world from Giygas, the game's main antagonist. Ness eventually meets with three other people, who also have been given the same fate. They travel through the land, and eventually defeat Giygas. After this, Ness receives a letter from his mother, who tells him about the family not eating as much of his favorite food anymore. He also escorts Paula back to Twoson.

In Mother 3
Hinawa is a very loving and motherly person, close to many of the villagers of Tazmily. She enjoys cooking homemade foods and loves flowers, especially sunflowers and Tazmily gerberas.

In Chapter 1, she gets lost with her children in the mountains on the way back from their vacation. Wandering around in the fire and later the rain, Hinawa ends up getting attacked by a reconstructed Drago, and is killed by it. The townspeople hold a funeral for her, and bury her next to a patch of sunflowers. Flint becomes obsessed with his wife's death, and frequently visits her grave, often placing flowers there.

Hinawa's death has caused much shock and sadness to the village. Claus goes as far as to avenge her, and runs away to wth one of his father's knives to fight the Drago.
The Drago are a species of dinosaur-like creatures appearing in Mother 3.
Physiology
Drago are huge, green reptilian creatures resembling T. rex. They have small eyes and stubby arms. The Drago have large, red plates protruding from the skin along their spine. Their skin is dotted with yellow marks. The Drago are shown to have large, sharp fangs and claws on their feet.
Behavior
Despite their intimidating appearance, the Drago are shown to be very gentle and playful.
In Mother 3
spoiler
The Drago first appear in the Prologue. The twins, Lucas and Claus, play with a group of Drago living next to Alec's house on Mt. Oriander.

In Chapter 1, the Pigmask Army are shown to have manipulted the father Drago from the Prologue into a bionic chimera, Mecha Drago. The Drago, in its rage, kills Hinawa. Claus attemps to avenge his mother using Flint's knife and PSI learned from the Magypsies, but fails and is thrown off of the Drago Plateau. Flint foresaw this battle and went on a search for Claus along with Alec. The two find Claus's shoes, and later the Mecha-Drago. Using the knife made from the Drago's fang,
Flint was able to lower its defenses and eventually defeat it. Flint was about to finish it off, but the baby Drago defended its father. Flint is then informed by Alec that if he kills the parent he will make the baby go through the same thing the twins did.

In Chapter 3, the mother and child Drago appear to save Kumatora, Wess, and Salsa from the Pigmask Army before dissapearing for the rest of the game. A frozen Drago appears in Chapter 7 at the Chimera Lab.

PSI, or PK, is a major mechanic in the Mother series.
Origin and Discovery
PSI was originally used by Giygas's race. When George and Maria were abducted by these aliens in 1909, George studied the powers and eventually learned to use them and eventually passed them down to Ninten, his great-grandson.
Types of PSI
Each PSI move can have up to 5 ranks, α, β, γ, Σ, and Ω (Also π in Mother).

There are also three categories of PSI: Assist, Offense, Recover, and Other.
Well, I shared the site it used to be hosted on with 2 other people who were always testing new scripts (other wikis, forums, etc.) which was probably too much for the free hosting the domain owner had decided to get. :x Though just the Ace Attorney Wiki by itself probably didn't have that many tables.
The Game Boy Advance was Nintendo's third handheld console, following the Game Boy and Game Boy Color. Two Mother games are playable on it, both only released in Japan. The Game Boy Advance featured smaller cartridges than that of the older Game Boys, and was able to play the games of its predecessor on it.
Redesigns
A redesign for the Game Boy Advance was made, known as the Game Boy Advance SP, which had a more similar look to the old Game Boy, except for the fact that it had a crease in the middle and could be folded up.

Another redesign for the Game Boy Advance was released, called the Game Boy Micro. It is much more compact than the first two versions, and features a slightly smaller screen. A limited edition Mother 3-themed version of the Game Boy Micro was available if one preordered Mother 3, colored bright red and having a pattern of the Nowhere Islands on it.
Hardware
The Game Boy Advance, like its predecessor, could connect with others through a link cable. This, however, was not utilized in any Mother games.
*Mother 3
Trivia
*The Game Boy Advance is the only system where all Mother games can be played, though the first two only through a remake.
Onett (Japanese: オネット Onett) is a town in EarthBound. It is home to a number of key characters in the game, among them being Ness and Pokey Minch. Onett is where the game's protagonist, Ness, begins his adventure. The town was once harassed by a gang called The Sharks, led by Frank.
Geography
Onett is dotted with trees, grass, and hills. To the north is a large mountainous area home to Pokey Minch, Ness, and the meteorite. To the south is thick forest and a dirt road connecting Onett to Twoson. The east is covered in a thick forest until it borders the northern hills. To the west is the ocean which can be seen from Beak Point, where Ness can buy a very expensive and run-down house.
Mondo Mole is the Sanctuary Boss that guards Lilliput Steps, the second Your Sanctuary location in Earthbound. Mondo Mole has various strong attacks, including tearing into the target and clawing with one's sharp nails, both of which are high-level attacks. It has a fairly weak bash and can use various non-damaging PSI moves, which are Lifeup α, PSI Shield α, and Offense Up α. However, Mondo Mole is extremely vulnerable to Paralysis and also PSI Flash. After defeated, Mondo Mole will yield 5791 exp. and drop $400.

Project ideas
Other project ideas could be Project Enemies, or possibly something to do with the game's music (Music is a common theme throughout the series, and there's also a bunc.. ok 5 or so.. of albums)? Mechanics, as well, although I think that could be saved for when we have things set up a little more...

I keep wanting to do something with the game's extensive details on everything, too, but that's pretty much just trivia sections and not actual pages or anything. EB trivia is more like "did you know that there's a random black sesame seed in the Dusty Dunes Desert? 8D", though, leaning less from opinionated coincidences, so... gah I don't know. D: →Tinā ♫δ 14:50, 27 September 2010 (MDT)
:Project Enemies and Sanctuaries are ideas I have. Music could work, as names are provided in SSBB. Enemies, I really think could work. Mechanics I agree with maybe setting it up when we're more set up. As for other things, I don't know. Project PSI, NPCs, and Super Smash Bros. were among the ones I brainstormed, but I thought that they were too specific. NPCs is basically characters, PSI is basically attacks, and SSB doesn't really have that much EB coverage. A 14:58, 27 September 2010 (MDT)
::Hmm... Project Sanctuaries I'm kind of iffy on, seeing as it could go under locations, and there's also the Eight Melodies from M1 and the Seven Needles from M3, too, which have very similar goals. I like Project PSI, though, thinking about it- there still needs to be a lot done on the articles, like adding enemies that use it, SSB info, more specific details, and so on.
::I do really like the sound of Project Music, though- music is a large part of the games, and a lot of the songs are named (well... uh, save for EB, anyway. there's like 8 tracks that are named). Although obviously only the major songs would get their own articles - going just by name would be silly because literally every single song in M3 is named - there's still quite a bit to write about. :B
::I kinda like the idea of SSB, though, since it's so different from the rest of the series, EB stuff being present in every game, and so on. Hrmm... →Tinā ♫δ 15:19, 27 September 2010 (MDT)
:::*Maybe Sanctuaries/Eight Melodies/Seven Needles (Maybe Landmarks?)
:::*SSB
:::*PSI (Removal of ? in user page)
:::*Enemies
:::All in all, these all could work. One thing I think could work but didn't put because it's major is Leaders. Should founders be given authority or should leaders be chosen to lead the project. In the latter, I think something like an activity check should be put each year or something like that. A 15:42, 27 September 2010 (MDT)
::::Hmm... actually, Project Landmarks sounds like a pretty good idea! Also, for Leaders... I like the idea of leaders being chosen over founders, personally. Since anyone can start the project to get it going, but if a project leader is chosen for their contributions and help with the projects, then that's a little better, in my opinion.
::::I'm not sure how the music articles will be formatted, though. I'll think about that later. == Leadership ==
Hey Turwig, have you decided how leadership of the projects would work? If not, may i recommend you watch/talk with TheSuperZeldaMan. He joined recently, and has expressed interest in becoming an admin. I said contribute for a while and we will see, but it dawned on me last night, with his experince and knowledge, he could be useful as a project leader. As coordinator of wiki projects, i thought i'd get your opinion on the matter. Tacopill 10:29, 13 October 2010 (MDT).
:I haven't completely decided, but right now I'm leaning toward some sort of vote system used by the members to vote. Since there is no projects yet, resulting in their not being any members either, I think he could, though I do think I'd need to know which project he would like to lead. A 14:13, 13 October 2010 (MDT)
::Sounds good. When i talk with him next, i will point him to this conversation. Tacopill 14:43, 13 October 2010 (MDT).
