Synopsis

Spoiler warning: this article or section may contain major plot or ending details! Proceed with caution.

Lucas wakes up, finding himself in a large field of sunflowers. He finds himself completely alone, and wanders around a bit, stopping to look around occasionally. Boney eventually runs up to him, and they continue to wander west in the field. Lucas is reminded of his mother, Hinawa, while walking around, as sunflowers were her favorite kind of flower, and she loved them quite a lot. He then sees what appears to be the ghost of Hinawa, and he runs after her. She re-appears again, appearing to gesture for Lucas to come to her. Hinawa's ghost appears over a cliff, and Lucas tries to jump to her, and falls off. He and Boney land safely in a haystack, however, and are taken in by Alec and Wess.

Trivia

  • Internally, the sprite group for Boney's sprites in the sunflower field share a number with Flint's speaker entry, and his sprites seem copied and pasted from his normal sprite group with unused duplicates left behind. This indicates Boney's inclusion in the chapter was likely a late addition in development. The sprite group seems to have originally contained sprites for Flint, who would have been in the field alongside Lucas instead of Boney. [1]
    • This would match up with what is known of EarthBound 64, as the Spaceworld 1999 trailer shows Lucas holding onto Flint when the party grabs onto the airship from the end of Chapter 5, so they'd likely have fallen down together.
